The city makes up a large portion of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. You'll find Garland 18 miles northeast of Dallas, Texas and 12 miles north of Mesquite. The city is close to the smaller populaces of Richardson and Rowlett as well as the even smaller communities of Wylie, Sachse, Murphy, and Sunnyvale.
With 73,241 households and 55,443 families residing in the city, population density nears 3,778 people per square mile and there are 75,300 housing units.
The city has a total area of 57.1 square miles, all of which is land.
